〜たあげく(に)
Meaning
Expresses ending up with a bad result after a long process. As in 「さんざん〜したあげく」, it relates an unfavorable conclusion after much has happened, with exasperation or regret.
Examples
- さんざん迷ったあげく、何も買わずに帰ってきた After agonizing over it, I ended up coming home without buying anything.
- 彼は借金を重ねたあげくに、家まで手放した After piling up debt, he ended up letting go of even his house.
