〜ばかりだ

Meaning

Expresses a change continuing in a bad direction. As in 「悪くなるばかりだ」, used to lament an undesirable one-way change. In the form 「あとは〜ばかりだ」, it also means that preparations are complete and all that remains is to wait for it.

Examples

最近、物価は上がるばかりだ Lately, prices do nothing but rise.
祖母の病状は悪化するばかりで、心配だ My grandmother's condition only worsens, and I'm worried.
準備は整った。あとは出発を待つばかりだ Preparations are complete. Now all that's left is to await departure.
