〜とはいえ

Meaning

Expresses a contrast, "that said, the reality is different." Negates the expected conclusion against what was granted earlier. 「〜とはいうものの」 is similar and somewhat formal.

Examples

春とはいえ、朝晩はまだかなり冷え込む。 Although it is spring, mornings and evenings are still quite cold.
便利になったとはいえ、使いこなせなければ意味がない。 Even though things have become more convenient, it is meaningless if you cannot use them.
自分で決めたこととはいえ、いざ退職するとなると寂しい。 Although I decided it myself, when it actually comes to resigning, I feel lonely.
