〜わけにはいかない
Meaning
Expresses that, although one wants to, one cannot do something for social or moral reasons. In the form 「〜ないわけにはいかない」, it expresses the obligation that circumstances make it absolutely necessary to do something.
Examples
- 大事な会議があるので、休むわけにはいかない I have an important meeting, so I can't just take the day off.
- これは借り物だから、君にあげるわけにはいかない This is borrowed, so I can't give it to you.
- お世話になった人の頼みだから、引き受けないわけにはいかない It's a request from someone I'm indebted to, so I can't refuse to take it on.
