〜つつ（も）

Meaning

Expresses two actions or states progressing in parallel at the same time. A literary equivalent of 「〜ながら」, describing doing one action while also doing another. In the form 「つつも」, it carries a contrastive nuance: acting contrary to what one knows.

Examples

景色を眺めつつ、ゆっくりと歩いた I walked slowly while admiring the scenery.
今後の方針を検討しつつ、準備を進めている We are proceeding with preparations while considering future policies.
体に悪いと知りつつも、つい夜更かししてしまう Even though I know it is bad for my health, I end up staying up late.
悪いと思いつつも、断れなかった Although I felt bad about it, I could not refuse.
