N2
〜というものではない/〜というものでもない
Meaning
Expresses partial negation, meaning it cannot be stated so simply. In response to a seemingly reasonable idea, it rejects the assumption, saying it is not necessarily so. 「〜でもない」 is a softer way of saying it.
Examples
- お金さえあれば幸せだ、というものではない Having money does not necessarily mean you will be happy.
- 謝れば済むというものではない An apology does not necessarily make everything all right.
