〜というもの

Meaning

Attached to a word expressing a period of time, it conveys the emphasis on continuity "throughout that long period." It carries the speaker's feeling that the period is long and weighs heavily. It is placed after a word indicating a period, as in 「この一年というもの」「ここ数日というもの」, and is followed by a state that has continued. This is a different usage from 「とは」「というものだ」, which state the definition or nature of something.

この一年というもの、彼は一日も休まなかった。 For this entire year, he didn't take a single day off.
ここ数日というもの、雨ばかり降っている。 These past few days, it has done nothing but rain.
ここ三か月というもの、まともに休みを取っていない。 For these three months, I haven't had a proper break.
