Meaning
Expresses that something amounts only to that degree, with no greater value or importance. States modestly, or with a low evaluation, that it is merely a small part of many or remains within an insignificant range.
Examples
- これは数ある案の一つにすぎない This is merely one of many proposals.
- 私はただの通りすがりにすぎません I am nothing more than a passerby.
- 彼の話は推測にすぎず、確かな証拠はない This success is nothing more than a coincidence.
