Meaning

Acknowledges something yet the action or result runs counter to it. A written-style expression for the contradiction of understanding in one's heart but acting otherwise. Close to 「〜ながらも」.

Examples

体に悪いと思いつつも、つい夜更かしをしてしまう。 Even though I know it is bad for my health, I end up staying up late.
忙しいと言いつつも、彼は頼みごとを断らない。 While he says he is busy, he never turns down a request.
