Meaning

Takes something as a baseline and indicates a degree exceeding even that. Emphasizes a degree surpassing the object of comparison, as in 「以前にもまして」 (more than before) or 「何にもまして」 (more than anything).

Examples
  1. 今年は例年にもまして暑さが厳しい。 This year the heat is even more severe than usual.
  2. 事故の後、彼は以前にもまして安全に気を配るようになった。 After the accident, he became even more careful about safety than before.
  3. 家族の健康が、私にとって何にもまして大切だ。 My family's health is more important to me than anything else.
