〜のきわ

Meaning

Indicates that something or a state has reached the highest possible degree. Used in both good and bad senses; a formal expression attaching to nouns to emphasize an extreme degree, as in 「ぜいたくの極み」 (the height of luxury) or 「感激の極み」 (the height of emotion).

Examples
  1. 連日の徹夜続きで、疲労の極みに達していた。 After consecutive all-nighters, I had reached the peak of exhaustion.
  2. こんなに温かいおもてなしを受け、感激の極みです。 Receiving such warm hospitality, I am deeply moved.
  3. 一着何百万円もするドレスとは、ぜいたくの極みだ。 A dress costing millions of yen is the height of luxury.
