〜の至り
Meaning
Expresses a feeling at its utmost extreme, "feeling extremely ~." Mostly a formal expression for emotions such as joy, honor, or embarrassment, used in greetings and letters. Attaches to a limited set of nouns, as in 「光栄の至り」 (the height of honor) or 「赤面の至り」 (utterly mortifying).
Examples
- このような賞をいただき、光栄の至りです。 Receiving such an award is the utmost honor.
- 若気の至りで、当時はずいぶん無茶なことをしたものだ。 In the rashness of youth, I did quite a lot of reckless things back then.
- 皆様の前でこのような失敗をしてしまい、赤面の至りです。 Making such a mistake in front of everyone, I am deeply embarrassed.
