〜まい/〜まいか
Meaning
Expresses negative conjecture, "probably will not ~," or negative volition, "I will not ~." 「まいか」 is the form questioning a conjecture, "isn't it perhaps ~."
Examples
- これほど準備したのだから、もう失敗はするまい。 Having prepared this much, there should be no more failures.
- 彼はもう来ないのではあるまいか、と皆が心配し始めた。 Everyone started to worry that he might not come at all.
