〜際（に）
Meaning
Expresses the occasion or opportunity when something is done. A somewhat formal expression indicating the scene or point in time when an act takes place. As in "〜際は," it takes up a specific occasion to state something.
Examples
- お越しの際は、受付にお声がけください When you visit, please speak to the reception desk.
- 非常の際には、この扉から避難してください In case of emergency, please evacuate through this door.
- 契約の際に、身分証明書が必要です An identification document is required when signing the contract.
- 退室する際は、電気を消してください When leaving the room, please turn off the lights.
