〜きり(で)
Meaning
Indicates that, taking something as the last point, no action or change follows afterward. Describes a state that occurs only once and does not continue. Often used in the form 「〜たきり」.
Examples
- 彼とは去年会ったきり、一度も連絡を取っていない。 I met him last year, and we have not been in touch since.
- 朝出かけたきりで、夜になっても帰ってこない。 He left in the morning and has not come back even at night.
- 祖母は病で寝たきりになってしまった。 My grandmother became bedridden due to illness.
