〜(よ)うがない/〜(よ)うもない
Meaning
Indicates that even if one wants to, there is no method or means, and nothing can be done. Describes a state of being at a loss with no way to act. Attaches to the masu-stem of verbs.
Examples
- 住所も電話番号もわからないので、連絡のしようがない。 Without an address or phone number, there is no way to contact him.
- ここまで壊れてしまっては、もう直しようがない。 It is so badly broken that there is no way to fix it.
- 本人にやる気がない以上、助けようもない。 Since the person has no motivation, there is no way to help.
