〜べからず／〜べからざる

Meaning

Expresses strong prohibition, "must not do." 「べからず」 is used at the end of a sentence on signs and rules, while 「べからざる」 modifies a noun. An archaic, stiff literary expression.

Examples

園内の植物を採るべからず、と立て札にある。 A sign reads: "Do not pick the plants in the garden."
彼は会社にとって欠くべからざる人材だ。 He is an indispensable person for the company.
