The part of skin that covers the eye. It protects the eyeball and carries out the actions of blinking and closing the eyes. Used as in 「瞼を閉じる」, 「瞼が腫れる」, 「瞼が重い」. Also used in compound forms such as 「上瞼」, 「下瞼」, 「一重瞼」, 「二重瞼」. Figuratively, it is also used in contexts of visually recalling memories or recollections, as in 「瞼に焼き付く」, 「瞼に浮かぶ」.
