〜まくる
Meaning
Attached to the ます-form of a verb, it is a suffix-like expression conveying the emphasis "to do 〜 thoroughly / to excess." It indicates performing that action vigorously and repeatedly, or excessively. Used as 「書きまくる」「食べまくる」. It is casual spoken language and is not often used in formal writing.
Examples
- 夏休みは遊びまくった。 Over summer break, I played nonstop.
- 締め切り前は寝ずに書きまくる。 Before a deadline, I write furiously without sleeping.
- セールで買いまくってしまった。 I went on a shopping spree during the sale.
- 一日中走りまくって、くたくただ。 I ran around all day and I'm exhausted.
